Capacitors are used in car audio systems that require additional power on an instantaneous basis. This occurs when heavy bass notes hit in the recorded material. During these bass notes, the current demand on the system is increased and can cause voltage drops. Power Acoustik Capacitors act as a power reservoir, supplying added power to keep your system playing strong.
Capacitors are complex to measure [the capacitance] once you get into the Farad range, so it took me a while to fabricate a bench test (I wanted to make sure this was the real deal). I'm an experienced electronics technician with equipment at my disposal to put this to the test, so I can vouch this is truly an 8-Farad capacitor.
*One point to this monster is that it Does draw .07 amps (70 mA) all the time, just to keep it charged at 14 volts on the bench. My final solution for not putting a drain on the battery is to engineer a time delay relay circuit that will connect and charge the cap about 20 seconds before powering on my gadget (an inverter).
*The built-in meter was not calibrated, but there is a calibration hole that you'll need a Phillips jeweler screwdriver to reach. Of course you'll need an external standard such as an accurate DMM to compare the results to for adjustment. The display reads in .01 increments, by it jumped .04 volts- I could not get it to read precisely to right voltage- but it's for bling anyway.
*There's a built-in over voltage/under voltage buzzer that's barely audible to men due to it's high frequency. For the under voltage, it came on EXACTLY at the spec literature voltages.
*The included charging light bulb measures 1.4 ohms and at T-0 (the moment you connect it) draws about an amp, then dims as the cap charges.
