    Description

    This auction is for an original (1940) Gerda Christoffersen pastel portrait of an Indian girl.It was purchased new,at that time in a small shop in Banff,Alberta by my Mother,an artist and art teacher and has remained in my family for over 80 years.
    Since the artist was born in 1917 she was about 23 years old at the time she created this portrait,so that would make this pastel one of her earliest works.
    She passed away at 95 years old in 2012.
    The portrait is in excellent condition with no damage of any kind and has been hung,out of the sunlight,in a non-smoking home since it was purchased.
    The actual portrait measures 13-1/2 inches high by 11 inches wide.The frame is original and measures 21 inches high by 17 1/4 inches wide.
    This exquisite pastel is a rare find which depicts a very beautiful Indian child.In addition,it is also a very early work from a famous artist known for a lifetime of portraits of North American Indians.
