    Description

    Original Pen and Ink Drawing. Thomas and Walter Hoving Cutting the Ribbon Over the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Artist Inscribed and Signed. 1976.
    From Estate lot of Barbara Goldsmith, museum benefactor.
    Thomas Hoving and his father, Walter are synonymous with leadership of the museum, and both were instrumental in the large expansion programs of the 1970s.
    The estate lot comes along with these five old B&W Met Museum file photos: (1) Children participating in museum drum display, 1947; (2)
    Valuable paintings being unpacked, 1953; (
    3) Beau Brummel, Man of the Future Exhibit; (4) Central atrium main desk, 1969; and (5) Museum exterior (later printed in NYTimes edition of July 7, 1977).
    Drawing of Hovings is hand-inscribed by the artist to Barbara Goldsmith. Artist's signature is also present, but not identifiable.
    A very special One-of-a-Kind piece.
    Dimensions:  Drawing image is 20" x 14"; matted/framed, 26" x 20"; photos are each 8" x 10".
    Condition: Drawing and all photos are in excellent vintage condition.

    NOTE about the artist signature:  We would appreciate if anyone on Ebay can tell us who the artist is. The signature is clearly written, but we can't make it out. Probably an acquaintance of Barbara Goldsmith and likely affiliated with the Museum. We will provide a store credit, or 0 off price of this item if purchased.
