Description
Louis Lemp Pabst was born into the Lemp Brewery Family of St. Louis in 1909, and died in Milwaukee in 1977. Louise was trained as an artist, spending several years in France where she received recognition by receiving a silver medal in the 1935Societe de Artistes Francais, Paris,
as well as exhibiting in that group over 8 years. There were additional exhibits in the United States. Louise married her first cousin, Edwin Pabst, and resided in Milwaukee where she was known primarily as a portraitist. The work I offer at this time was acquired following a 1977 exhibit and sale of Louise's work which was held by the Milwaukee Auction Gallery, and which is now part of a private, and certainly the largest, collection of her work.
This example is a study/sketch measuring about 16" x 17" on a piece of stiff drawing 20 1/2" x 19 1/2". There is one small dark spot on the waist of this woman that appears to be caused by a spot of brown chalk or pencil. The reverse side of this paper also has a light sketch of another female. Very few of her drawings, which often were studies for larger works, have signatures. But as with the other works by Louise I offer a statement of authenticity specific to the work purchased that is provided in separate letter. (See the last photo.)
Currently there are tentative plans to have an exhibit of Louise's work in
one or two professional venues in Milwaukee, hopefully in 2024 or 25, at which time more research will be done.
At this time I am listing a few other drawings by Louise, so Check out my OTHER ITEMS/SELLER STORE.
