Description
Louis Lemp Pabst was born into the Lemp Brewery Family of St. Louis in 1909, and died in Milwaukee in 1977. Louise was trained as an artist, spending several years in France where she received recognition by receiving a silver medal in the 1935Societe de Artistes Francais, Paris,
as well as exhibiting in that group over 8 years. There were additional exhibits in the United States. Louise married her first cousin, Edwin Pabst, and resided in Milwaukee where she was known primarily as a portraitist. The work I offer at this time was acquired following a 1977 exhibit and sale of Louise's work which was held by the Milwaukee Auction Gallery, and which is now part of a private, and certainly the largest, collection of her work.
This single watercolor was a study for a full length portrait of a seated woman in a fashionable gown. The sheet of thin poster board measures about 23" x 18 1/4". This is another example of her professional method, working on studies leading to final large paintings.
Very few of Louise's drawings, which often were studies for larger works, have signatures.
But as with the other works by Louise I offer a statement of authenticity specific to the work purchased that is provided in separate letter. Currently there are tentative plans to have an exhibit of Louise's work in
one or two professional venues in Milwaukee, hopefully in 2024 or 25, at which time more research will be done. At this time I am listing a number of other works by Louise, so keep checking back for new entries. Check out my OTHER ITEMS/SELLER STORE.
