Description

Louis Lemp Pabst was born into the Lemp Brewery Family of St. Louis in 1909, and died in Milwaukee in 1977.  Louise was trained as an artist, spending several years in France where she received recognition by receiving a silver medal in the 1935
Societe de Artistes Francais, Paris,
as well as exhibiting in that group over 8 years. There were additional exhibits in the United States. Louise married her first cousin, Edwin Pabst, and resided in Milwaukee where she was known primarily as a portraitist.  The work I offer at this time was acquired following a 1977 exhibit and sale of Louise's work which was held by the Milwaukee Auction Gallery, and which is now part of a private, and certainly the largest, collection of her work.
This example is a lovely study/sketch measuring about 9" X 10" on a piece of pliable larger
drawing paper which can be trimmed to a smaller size, of any choosing.
This study sketch is of Mrs. Robert Kasten, (Sarah). Bob Kasten was an important political figure in Wisconsin who served as US Representative and Senator for many years. The final painting of Sarah Kasten is seen in the 1977 catalog of an exhibit at the  Milwaukee Auction Gallery, pg. 34.
Very few of Louise's drawings, which often were studies for larger works, have signatures.
But as with the other works by Louise I offer a statement of authenticity specific to the work purchased that is provided in separate letter.
In about the year 2024 or 25 there will be an exhibit of Louise's work held at the Pabst Mansion associated with one or two other professional venues in Milwaukee, at which time more research will be done.  At this time I am listing a number of other works by Louise, so keep checking back for new entries.  Check out my OTHER ITEMS/SELLER STORE.
