Description

After my visit of the Avignon market, I was asked to come to a private house in the old town centre of Nîmes (Gard, South of France).  Here, the owner presented me his collection of drawings for sale.  I managed to buy over 30 drawings of this collection (18th and 19th century drawings).   The drawings, by different artists, will be coming on ebay the next weeks.
The present 18th century drawing, executed in pen, ink and grey wash on laid paper, depicts a biblical scene.  King David is being visited by the Jewish High Priest (in our opinion Zadok).
This drawing, most likely, was a preparatory study for a larger scale painting.
Authorship : the drawing is from the French Neoclassical School, signed on the period mat (we read L. Ch. de T?..... invenit anno").  Extra research will be needed to decipher the signature.
We see this drawing in the very early French Neoclassical School, related to the work of artists such as Jean-Claude Naigeon (1753-1832)/
Period : the drawing is dated (left below on the mat) in the year "1779".
Size : 36,5x27,9cm.
Condition : Good.  Some scattered dirt throughout.  Laid down on a paper support (period).  Bottom side, bottom corners : fragments of paper missing.  Matted.  Unframed.
Shipping : flat shippingrate 18$.  Shipped as International Registered Mail (with trackingn°).  Combined shipping available.
