Antique Vintage Framed Morgan Dennis Signed Original Color Drawing Springer Cocker Spaniel Dog. The original wood frame measures 14 1/2" x 17 3/4"; the front opening art section alone is 8 5/8" x 11 3/8". I looked at it closely and it is either a crayon or color pencil drawing or possibly an etching print with enhanced hand painted colors. Certainly the white colors shown were hand painted. Morgan Dennis was best known for his dog etchings. The art is signed lower right Morgan Dennis and the matte has hand written notation in pencil inscription For Leon D Browne - Morgan Dennis. I did some research and Leon D Browne had lived in Scituate Mass. mid 20th century era. The back side retains the original gallery label Jordan Marsh Company Boston Mass. It also specifies the subject as a cocker spaniel. Fine all original condition - see my 12 detailed photos. It is not a lithograph type print, it is a fine piece of art guaranteed genuine Morgan Dennis original.Morgan Dennis (1892 – October 22, 1960) was an American illustrator and author known primarily for his paintings of dogs. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in Long Island, New York. He studied art with William Harry Warren Bicknell. He was commissioned by the Black and White Scotch Whiskey Company to illustrate the "Black and White Scotties", a successful ad campaign used over many years. One of his murals, "The Dog House", is in the bar and lounge of the Sheraton Russell Hotel in New York. He also competed in art competitions at the 1936 Summer Olympics, but did not win a medal.

He was born in Boston and lived on Long Island, New York, and in Key West, Florida where he lived on a houseboat, "The Sea Dog". One of his murals, "The Dog House", is in the bar and lounge of the Sheraton Russell Hotel in New York. He was also an author and illustrator, and his publications include: "Pup Himself", 1943; "Burlap", 1945; and "Morgan Dennis Dog Book".
He lectured on the art of etching and on dogs. His name also appears as Burt Morgan Dennis.
Born in Boston, MA on Feb. 27, 1892. Dennis studied at the American School of Design in Boston. An East Coast artist, he was active in southern California in 1929-30. His etchings and illustrations of dogs appeared in national magazines and on Black & White whiskey.
